Greetings and welcome to another Weekly Showcase.
One of our ‘regular’ bloggers who I know some of you read has suffered a very sad loss this week, I’ve added her post just below, I’m sure you’ll all join me in sending much love to her at this hard time.

Reasons To Be Cheerful – 02.08.12
Hey everyone, hope you’re all having a lovely week. I’ve had a great week so let’s dive straight in with the reasons that I’m cheerful/grateful/happy about this week!
Hair. I am absolutely over the moon that I’ve had my hair cut and coloured this afternoon! Oh my goodness, my roots were looking bad. They were really grey even though I only had it coloured 8 weeks ago. Anyway, after 2 hours with my lovely hairdresser, a flick through a couple of magazines and a coffee in peace, I emerged feeling {and nearly looking} like a new woman!

My Froley
Coombe Abbey
Before I worked at my current job I used to occasionally write for a local magazine that a friend of mine runs. One of the perks of running a magazine is that press visits and passes are handed out in return for writing an honest article of the experience. This weekend I was fortunate enough to be invited for a one night stay at a beautiful hotel with dinner and breakfast and a guided tour in return for writing the article. The destination was Coombe Abbey Hotel in Binley, Coventry and it was absolutely beautiful.

Is The Moral Highground The Right Direction To Take
When I was growing up I was always taught to “take the moral high ground” in an argument. This was supposed to make me feel grown up and that I had done the right thing. I would try to make the peace even if I felt that it was really the other person who was at fault!
However as I get older I do wonder if this really makes sense. Do people actually appreciate it? Do they realise you are doing it? Or do they just see it as an admission that you were wrong in the first place?

The Bank Holiday Baby Quiz
It feels only fair that the babies get a quiz…
Question 1:
Mummy has bought you a sippy cup and is letting you try something called ‘wa-ter’ for the first time today. How do you react?
a) throw the cup at mummy’s face. Laugh hysterically.
b) suck back some of the ‘wa-ter’ without swallowing, hold for a few seconds then simply let it fall from your mouth. Repeat until cup is empty.
c) drink up like a good baby. Mummy might love you even more.

Primary School Memories
There were the usual parties and end of year / leavers assemblies, which were all lovely. But they never quite capture all the memories for every person.
My little man did brilliantly at primary school, better than any of us could have imagined when he first, nervously, started at nursery school 8 years ago. He is not sporty, he wasn’t naughty and he wasn’t wildly funny or outgoing, so, inevitably he didn’t feature very highly in the montages of pictures and slides and sketches which were shown and performed at the leavers party and assembly.

Funny Money!
“Ma’am this $20 is fake” Huh, what? Oh my goodness, I was shocked and embarrassed! Everyone behind me just silently staring, probably thinking I’m a criminal. At that moment the world stopped around me for a minute while I gathered my thoughts, my mind was racing, so now I’m stuck with the money? ”How do you know?” I said

Dressing up smart for Nanny’s surprise 80th birthday party
Last weekend I went to my Nanny’s surprise 80th birthday party in London. 80 is very old but not as old as my great-granny who is 83! Me and my sister chose some very smart clothes to wear from Next – I got a shirt, waistcoat and tie. I really like wearing smart clothes to parties and I even had my hair spiked up.

The Chaos Queen
Fridges, floors and showers….!!
After discovering how amazing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda are to help clean stubborn stains in a toilet, I have been trying out the dynamite duo (quite literally – watch them fizz when they get mixed together!) on other cleaning jobs. Anything that speeds up cleaning is a winner in my books. Here are three ideas that really work…..

Timely Wimey
Gosh. I am finding it decidedly trickier blogging in the school holidays.
I have less space to think. Less time to watch the news or read a paper to get inspired/cross….

For the love of Hector
It is one of those defining moments, you are feeling overwhelmed with affection, your eyes mist over, your lip trembles, you want to articulate fully, the depth of your feeling to this significant other, eyes locked, the atmosphere heavy with anticipation…you open your mouth, and the only term that the english language provides for such an occassion, be it partner to partner, parent to child, or child to parent..” I love you ” Truly the english language has failed us.

The Smell of freebiedom
Most of us love a good freebie, whether it be samples or free prize draws with the chance of winning something nice. I’m always on the look out and enter everything that isn’t too time consuming. I’ve had a few minor wins, books, dvds, toys, baby equipment and some kitchen stuff. My biggest win has been a £200 gift card, that I’m going to use towards my Christmas shopping.

Teacher Mama: Math Exploration Box
When my son first became interested in numbers and counting, I quickly jumped into teacher mode and created a “Math Exploration Box” which he could explore on his own or we could work on together. With young children, the most important teaching tool is the world around them. Seeing numbers around them and counting things that are meaningful to them. These are the things that are real to them. They are things they see each and everyday. But if you want something more to begin with, here is a math exploration you can make at home.

10 Potty Training Tips
As you are all aware, this week has been spent potty training my little monsters. I’m happy to announce that we have had no accidents since Thursday! This seems a little too good to be true since we only started Monday. Which begs the question; could it really be that easy? And if so, do the past problems point towards my failures rather than the girls? I have learnt a lot this week mainly that I give in to easily!

Sunflowers
Look at these little beauties that I planted at the weekend! Our garden is not great but I try to brighten it up with some flowers over the summer. For some reason {maybe the abundance of rain!} I hadn’t planted anything yet this year. But we went to our local farm shop on Saturday afternoon and I saw these. There were three sunflowers in each pot and they cost £3.50 for two pots… a bargain in my opinion!

Feed my child and Save the Children
I’ve been thinking about writing this for a little while but self doubt has dragged me down somewhat. Its a rubbish idea. I’m not a big enough blogger, not high enough up in the community, blah blah blah. And then just now I thought meh, just do it anyway and if it falls flat on its face so what. So here goes.

Little Miss Bad
Little Miss Bad secretly saws Mr. Forgetful’s car in half, paints crack on Mr. Worry’s wall, replaces the cream in Mr. greedy’s buns with toothpaste and more. Little Miss Bad is indeed bad, that is until the day that notice detailing a ‘Grand Contest’ to discover who had played the most mischievous trick that week. Will she get found out and will she change her ways?

Telly Addicts
Now that we live across the road from A’s school my TV anguish is increasing. I dread the day her teacher cycles past and glancing through our front window, which I have come to realise is unusually large sees A slumped infront of some dodgy cartoon. This is a Steiner school as well. TV is practically outlawed! Possibly the worst example would be the animated series about a Chinese girl who looks like manga gone too far, her eyes take up more than half her face.
