Lady Briggs

A letter to my 16 year old self

Dear Laura,

So, where you are it is a 90′s summer, you’ve just finished school and GCSE results are looming! From what I remember you are taking this summer to kick back and enjoy yourself sporting an amazing tan thanks to the couple of weeks in Greece. Make the most of that tan, you will never have a one like it again – SPF 8 will become a thing of the past, only 15+ will become acceptable thanks to the media’s revelation that otherwise wrinkles will come knocking sooner than you’d wish. Wrinkles? I hear you say….

Story of a mum of 4, our lovely biggest boy has Asperger Syndrome

A funny – taking things literally

finished the ironing just now and James asked me what I was going to do next (we always need a plan!) I told him, “James, I’m going to have no end of fun. I’m going to take this ironing upstairs, then I’m going to get the rest of the washing off the line, then I shall probably sweep the floors – it’s going to be great” He looked at me blankly so I had to explain that I was being sarcastic, something he often finds it hard to pick up on. He takes things very literally and doesn’t

Learn Love Grow

A delicious long lie after an enjoyable evening with friends, interrupted by the need to dive out into the car, a child to be collected from a sleeover.

Driving along, rubbing my eyes and yawning, I noticed a man dancing in his garden …with his dog. A double-take, and I witnessed a lovely joyous interaction between the pair, the dog up on back legs momentarily, the men executing some cross between a highland fling and the maccarena whilst laughing out loud,

A Placeholder of a Post « Mynd and Mist

Things have been rather quiet on the blog front of late – the main reason for this is the arrival of the school holidays, as I’ve been spending the past few weeks pulling all sorts of tricks out of my sleeve in an effort to keep my newly-minted five-year-old entertained.

My OH has no sight at all, but it doesn’t stop him doing anything. I met him 17 years ago on a sailing holiday, we got on so well because we both enjoyed ski-ing and cycling and went on many different activity holidays together before the children were born.

D is an awesome ski-er. He is fearless and can ski black runs!

He did his first 10K run about 5 years ago and since then he’s been hooked. He runs regularly at our local 5k park-run and is running his 3rd half marathon in October.

Eeek…More Than One Baby!

Motherhood did not come naturally to me! In fact it is a standing joke amongst my family and friends that I was a self confessed child hater until I hit the age of 32. Not that I would ever do any harm to the screaming, pooing, sticky little beings, I just didn’t want one ruining MY life! I was the first to admit I was too selfish, I enjoyed doing what I wanted when I wanted; I enjoyed my life to the max….

Come to School Too, Blue Kangaroo!

Come to School Too, Blue Kangaroo!

This is particularly useful if you have a child (like mine) who you suspect has worries about starting school but is not openly discussing those concerns with you when the subject is approached. We’ve been reading this book at bedtimes when we are snuggled up in bed and the distractions of the daytime has passed and it has genuinely helped Scamp in provoking dialogue of her concerns and to see that Lily was worried about starting too but once at school had so much fun has reassured her.

What happens to pets when they die?

What happens to pets when they die?

Yesterday we said an emotional goodbye to our beloved guinea pig of 4 years. Okay, okay, those of you who know me well or have been following my blog, will be aware that I am not exactly what might be described as an ‘animal lover’ (see my previous post on this here). Sharpay (named by my then High School Musical-obsessed 6 year old) was quite possibly the ugliest guinea pig I’ve ever seen – DD2 chose her because she was ‘blonde’ (aka ‘white’) like the real Sharpay in HSM!

Liar Liar Pants on Fire

I did it – today I officially became my mother – argh. I told my daughter not to pull that face because the wind would change and it would stay like that! It was a desperate move, because today has been the day from hell. My daughters have spent the entire day screaming, crying, pushing each other, wrecking each others toys and generally being complete monsters and they are both still only babies really. I envisage nightmare teen years in our house.

Did you know..?

Did you know, If a teenage girl throws her sisters Ipod Nano into the pool, it still works if you put it in the sun for an hour?
Did you know, If you let teenagers have “a shandy”, they end up having “a few” beers and think you can’t tell? (coming back completely plastered)

A Sense of Pride

A Sense of Pride

If people can’t find positive role models there – goodness knows what is going wrong. Everyone I speak to feels a sense of national pride in our team – a sense of unity. I don’t think many people would deny that the Olympics being hosted in London could not have come at a better time for this country. It’s certainly a stark contrast from where we were a year ago.

Cheetah Cubs at Whipsnade Zoo « Just Photos By Me

2 years ago a litter of 5 Cheetah cubs were born – little was I to know that these little bundles of fluff would be what got me blogging in the first place. This year, proud mum Dubai gave birth to 7 inquisitive, beautiful and completely captivating cubs. Born in May, they went on show to the public on Friday. We got back from holiday on Saturday afternoon, we were at the zoo on Sunday morning. Here they are:

Super Tom's trip to the London 2012 Olympics

On the day that we went to the Olympics, me and my mum went on a train to get there. We got up early at seven o’clock (we had stayed at my nanny’s house because she lives in London) and we walked halfway to the train station and then took a bus because we had travel-cards which came with our Olympic tickets. It was six stops on the train to get to the Olympics and the train was very very busy because lots of people were going to the Olympics.
