Green Eggs and Ham

» Green Eggs and Ham Team Lloyd

It’s a book that within its covers holds so many memories, of almost every time we have sat and cuddled and read it. We love The Hat in the Cat – note its corrected title as by Miss B Lloyd herself, even The Hat in the Cat Came Back, they were both as equally adored and loved on those long train journeys, again equally by the other commuters and B Lloyd. But somehow Green Eggs and Ham just held something more special for us both.

Awards, Recognition and Nominations (Part 3) - Sleepless In Newcastle

This one is for the Liebster Award and I was nominated for this one by Kina over at Human in Recovery once again. I can’t believe the amount of love my readers are showing me at the moment by giving these awards to me but as always any interaction with my online presence is appreciated and cherished. I just hope that you keep coming back and keep letting me know if there are things that you really enjoy or if there are things that you aren’t liking.

School’s out for summer

School's out for summer

It’s finally here – the last day of the school year 2012. The shoulders that have been steadily creeping higher and higher over the past few weeks, the tension that reached a very timely climax this morning, can finally be set free…..almost like the air being released from a tightly capped bottle of fizz.

In my vast experience (7 years) of the school gate phenomenon, I have noticed that mums fall into 2 camps where the summer holidays are concerned:

The Mummy Adventure

A Moment of History

A Moment of History

The Olympic torch finally made it’s way into our little corner of the country and we were ready to welcome it. Armed with an inflatable torch of our own and a patriotic flag we joined the masses on Thursday morning waiting for the procession. . .

Reasons To Be Cheerful #R2BC

Reasons To Be Cheerful #R2BC

How fast has this week gone?! It feels like yesterday that I was writing last week’s R2BC. Having said that though, I keep getting my days mixed up this week and yesterday I kept thinking it was Thursday. Oh well I suppose one reason to be cheerful is that its nearly the weekend.

Anyway, please pop over to visit Mich at Mummy From The Heart who hosts this fab linky by clicking on the pic on the left.

Here comes the cheerfulness…

Survive the Summer Checklist for Parents

Survive the Summer Checklist for Parents

Just as a bit of fun, we have put together a little checklist for all you parents out there, particularly those that will be trying to juggle work and family in the school holidays. Try and do all of this, and you might just stay sane over the 6 – 8 weeks the kids are at home with you.

Peapods

Peapods

The other day in the supermarket, I spotted some peapods. When I was teaching I used to grow peas in the nursery garden for the children to explore, and they could help themselves to the bounty when they were playing outside! I decided to get some for my two, as it has been too rainy to get outside and plant peas. I bought a handful and they cost me about 60p! They had a wonderful time with the peapods, here are some of the things they were learning:

Dear Baby Boy

I could sit here and write for ages, and make a really soppy post about all the things you do to make me proud. Though I realise you probably don’t want to hear that and by the time you are old enough to understand then you will be sick of me always telling you how proud I am. So this post will list the things you do that make me laugh.

We found this odd chain stuck in the beach at Hayling Island.

Ready, Steady…Go

The house has been cleaned, so have the children. The Marquee is up and so far no wind or rain. I bet there’s a storm during the night and I wake to discover my pop up gazebos have popped about 5 miles down the road – ha!

The day I held the Olympic Torch

The day I held the Olympic Torch « the adventures of Super Tom

I held the Olympic Torch and it was amazing because I was at Beavers. I had a picture with it. It felt kind of heavy and light and it had the London 2012 symbol on it. I couldn’t believe it when I actually just touched the torch! It was a once in a really really big lifetime experience and I am happy because not any children get to hold the torch.

To do or not to do, that is the question….

Yesterday evening, I returned home from a lovely catch-up with a friend, to find my study in disarray. I quickly deduced that DD1 had been frantically trying to finish some homework that she had been putting off for the last few weeks. Casting aside my anguish over the unruly mess that she had left on my desk, I promptly discovered that my ‘to do’ list had gone missing…..arrgh! This is very bad news.

Method or Madness?

Method or Madness?

My guru, if that’s the right word, when it comes to dog ‘training’ is Cesar Millan. I put the word training in quotes because Cesar says “I rehabilitate dogs. I train humans”. His philosophy is that the issues our dogs have is a result of us not taking the leadership role within our ‘pack’. Too many of us humanise our pets and don’t allow them to be the animals they deserve to be.

Poor old whats-his-name…

Poor old whats-his-name…

What on earth do I call my son?
I mean, yeah, he has a name, he’s 19 months old so it’d be pretty slack if I hadn’t got that one sorted out by now, but what do I call him on here? I suppose what I’m really asking myself is, do I think that if I write about my son online them I’m putting him in some kind of danger from a paedophile?

Summer

Summer

Seemingly endless weeks of dry days, penetrating heat and baby blue skies with soft white fluffy clouds gently passing overhead…running wild, surrounded by loved ones, these are features of my memories of summer. This year summer is passing all to quickly, and little has been seen of the hot golden globe. Days spent lazing in the garden, cloud watching in the radiant sunshine, or reminiscing with friends, not being realised, so far.

Becky Falls, Dartmoor

Becky Falls, Dartmoor

We holidayed in Devon back in June – the weather wasn’t great but we had a brilliant time. On our last day we visited Becky Falls up on Dartmoor. Boasting itself “as the most beautiful place in Devon” (I wonder how many other places say the same). It had been raining heavily and the river was full and gushing down at speed – making the splashes more spectacular and the ‘white water’ where it hit the rocks foam like lightly whipped cream.

Controlled Crying…….there, I said it!

Controlled Crying…….there, I said it!

I’ve been wanting to write this for a while, but despite being known in the real world for being outspoken, like most people I don’t like not being liked……so it’s a bit of a dilemma for me to dive into the big Controlled Crying debate. *does “please don’t hate me” eyes*.
The reason I want to dive into it is because there is a big misconception out there about what controlled crying actually is.

Tricks of the eBay trade – make it worth selling your junk….

the chaos queen

I’m well and truly in decluttering mode.

When you’re super busy (or a bit lazy like me) selling old stuff can seem like too much hassle. eBay is the UK’s most popular auction site and I’ve used it to sell clothes, shoes, shelving, a sofa, a much-loved classic car and even an entire kitchen. But there are also lots of great things I’ve spent time and effort listing and ended up not selling, or worse….selling for 99p.

So here are five tricks that can speed up the process and make it much more worth your while.
