Run of the windmill

First Parents’ Evening

My daughter has started school. It is a huge event for us. You can see the school yard from our house so she has already watched the kids coming and going and this has been a point of great excitement for the last year. It was almost too good a fantasy that one day she would be one of those rucksacked children filing in to the building that she has seen so many times from the outside. To me it looks like so many other schools, but to her it has taken on the mystery of a fairytale castle.

Free Falling into 40

Arthritis, Exercise and the 40 year old woman

I have a dilemma. I’ve had this dilemma since about March. I’m losing my parking space at work, which, in London was very useful. I had originally been given one that the company rented, but the owners took them back and I was given a temporary space within our building. However, my company can no longer justify giving me this space (I have fought it, but I’ve run out of ammunition). What to do? I have an ingenious plan.

The Crumby Mummy

Terrible Twosday (Public Tantrums)

I think that Bob is going to follow in my footsteps when it comes to acting. She has already perfected the heartbroken act!

Onlookers would think that she is absolutely distraught! She throws her head back, cries out and even manages tears! I know that it is all for the camera because the second she gets what she wants she stops and smiles. She doesn’t need any time to recover from the seemingly heart wrenching sobs.

Bends In The Road

Books: My Favorite Medicine

Books. They have saved me from boredom, as a child, on those incredibly loooooong trips. You know the ones I’m talking about. Whether as a child you remember asking, “Are we there yet?” Or as a parent now telling your children, “If you all don’t stop teasing each other, I’m goin’ to pull over and we’re going to sit there until I say so.” Books have entertained me from the time my parents read bedtime stories to me until the present day…

Mixed Bag of All Sorts

For Fathers’ Day: Thanks Daddy

I have to admit, Fathers’ Day did creep up on me a bit unawares this year. I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve been shopping less than usual because of the pregnancy sickness and tiredness, but I guess I usually rely on the shops bombarding me with signs that it’s (not so) nearly Fathers’ Day. Anyway, I was in the supermarket the other day and none of the cards there particularly grabbed me as suitable for Andrew to give to Daddy, so I thought I’d try and squeeze in some easy craft time whilst Andrew was napping one day…

Team Lloyd

Pregnancy Yoga

When I was pregnant with B Lloyd I discovered the wonders of Pregnancy Yoga. I absolutely loved it, it was every Monday morning and it always set me up for the week ahead. It had taken me ages to find the lady who ran it, and I truly have always believed since, it was the yoga that made B Lloyd’s labour so easy straightforward.

My Darlings and Me

My Darlings and Me

It’s been a tough week in our house. Oliver has been testing my patience to the absolute limits all week. Everything is a battle of wills with him and he’s so defiant… terrible three’s and all that I think. So I really need to do this weeks R2BC to remind me of all my reasons to be cheerful and to cheer myself up!

Anyway, please pop over to visit Mich at Mummy From The Heart who hosts this fab linky by clicking on the pic above.

Here comes the cheerfulness….

The Trolley Dolly

World Catwalk: Destination Sydney [Part 1]

I had almost given up on the idea of walking around Sydney. I really was another raindrop-in-my-eye away from turning around and just marching right back down Pitt Street. Back to the cosy Marriott bed with all its varieties of pillow, fluffy duvet appeal and hot tea. After a 9 hour overnight flight from Bangkok, I really had to use all the power of my tired little mind to force myself onto the high street on the hunt for stylish Sydneyettes… And I’ve never had such an easy day of it!

Street style – all the way from Sydney!

Clouds In My Coffee

Clouds in my Coffee

I cannot really comment on it’s child friendliness, with the exception of noting the existence of a children’s play area, as I know almost nothing about parenting (with the exception of a rudimentary understanding of how they are created – and most of that is theoretical rather than practical).

Abortion- what can be done?

I find it totally disgusting the way people treat having an abortion as a contraceptive. Something needs to be done about this but what can they do? If you limit the number of abortions people have you will then end up with more children being abandoned or put into the already struggling care system. So what can they do?! I don’t see that educating people works I had sex ed at school which didn’t teach me much.

12 reasons why blogging is like having kids

I have been blogging for five months. Not a particularly spectacular anniversary, but nice to take note of.

Despite it’s young life, my blog has poked its way into my world quite successfully. Its taken over a little bit. Rather like a third, unplanned child. It also happens to be a bit of a demanding one at that.

Admittedly, its without the nappy changing in the early months, but sadly still with the night-waking, though thankfully it doesn’t need to get burped regularly or sick up too much…

Bake Yummy

Lemon Polenta Cupcakes

I admit it.  There has been a packet of polenta sitting in my cupboard for ages.  It looks at me going “I know you want to use me but I also know you don’t know how”.  I’ve seen lots of recipes for lemon cake using polenta but they also seemed to be very high in oil and involved steeping things in other ‘stuff’.  I don’t have time to do that – if I’m baking with the children waiting around is not an option.

The Versatile Blogger Award

So, it would appear that my first rule of blogging is to wait until I feel sufficiently guilted into doing something. Although, lets be honest, versatile surely just means ‘blathers on about stuff which isn’t remotely related to the purpose of your blog’. In that case I am all over this bad boy as the sewing machine is growing dust in the corner and my bag of tricks for silversmithing is lord knows where. Hey ho!

Permanently in a Pickle

It’s That Time Again

Once a year we send a letter to Pickle’s birth parents. It’s hard putting pen to paper under these circumstances. I dread it. I feel terrible saying that, but I genuinely dread it. It takes the consumption of 23 cups of tea and the resistance of a rather strong urge to take up smoking before my writer’s block dissipates. I wander aimlessly around the house trying to muster up the courage and inspiration. I deliberate for hours over the composition of this one-page, fiddly letter. I use the largest font I can get away with, so I can write less.
